2018 On-Campus Housing

This year, we will be offering two housing options for the conference. These options will include North campus University accommodations at the UCSB San Joaquin Apartments and Santa Catalina, and hotel accommodations at the Best Western Plus South Coast Inn and the Kimpton Goodland Hotel. Please see below for the descriptions of these options.

(North campus housing can be registered for during your registration for the event)

UCSB’s newest apartment complex, San Joaquin Villages, are urban style apartment complexes. They are a 10-minute bike ride from the middle of campus and located adjacent to four bus lines that run very frequently. Bus passes are included for those staying in on-campus housing. Due to overwhelming interest in bus passes at last year’s event, we will be allocating additional bus passes to make sure everyone receives ample passes this year. Many sustainable design measures were incorporated into the San Joaquin Villages project. The apartments are highly resourced efficient buildings and will save water, energy, and reduce greenhouse gases as it strives for LEED Platinum certification. Sustainable design measures include stormwater retention basin, energy efficient windows, and energy-star appliances for all kitchens.

The San Joaquin apartments are all fully furnished. Each apartment consists of three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a living room, dining room, and kitchen. All kitchens include a dishwasher and microwave, and each bathroom has a sink, tub/shower combination, toilet, and medicine cabinet.

Linen and complimentary bus passes included for all rooms. Please note that these are residence halls and are modest accommodations.

Please also note that All rooms including “single” rooms are a part of a three bedroom, two bathroom suite. You may request suitemates, however if your group does not fill all the rooms in a suite we reserve the right to assign another conference attendee of the same gender to your suite. Gender non-conforming suites are available. Single rooms are ones where you share a suite but not a room.  In a Double you share a room.  Prices are by person, so two people wanting to stay in a double both need to pay the double price.

All attendees have access to lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Many pre/post conference events on Monday, Thursday and Friday also offer meals. The meals listed below are only those added for people staying on campus. Please note you can purchase additional meal passes during registration for $12 for any meal that you would like to add to your registration.

Santa Catalina is a pair of high rise towers located one mile from the campus on the northeast corner of El Colegio Road and Storke Road. Many rooms provide stunning views of the ocean, mountains, and surrounding community. Santa Catalina features four-person suites (two double rooms connected by a common bathroom), its own dining common, and a 25-meter swimming pool. Santa Catalina santa_catalina_double_iso_smis easily accessible via bus or off-street bike and walking paths.

Each suite consists of two bedrooms (4 single beds) separated by one shared bathroom. Rooms are furnished with two single beds, desk, desk chair, small chest of drawers, a closet and 5 hangers. Rooms do not have televisions, telephones, radios, or clocks. Soap is provided. All floors have wireless internet and elevator access.

Linen and complimentary bus passes included for all rooms. Please note that these are residence halls and are modest accommodations.

Please note that all student accommodations are shared rooms. You may request roommates or suitemates, however if your group does not fill all the beds in a room or suite we reserve the right to assign another student conference attendee of the same gender to your room/suite. Gender non-conforming rooms/suites are available.

Non-students staying in San Joaquin Villages will receive a complimentary BLUE parking permit for lot 65. On-campus parking is not included in the San Joaquin lodging rate, so if you drive onto campus you will need to pay for your own parking in any visitor lot using the parking dispensers.

Students staying in Santa Catalina will receive a complimentary YELLOW parking permit for lot 65 which is just across the street. On-campus parking is included in the Santa Catalina lodging rate, so these permits will also be stamped with Mesa, Lot 18, and Lot 22 parking structures. If you drive onto campus you will not need to pay using the parking dispensers as long as you are parked in either of those structures with your permit clearly displayed.
